HOLLOW SUPPORTS IN WATER STORAGE TANKS CONTINUE TO PROVIDE AN ENVIRONMENT FOR LEGIONELLA GROWTH. THE EFA/2013/004 DEPARTMENT OF HEALTH DIRECTIVE IS SUPPORTED BY THE NEW HSE ACOP L8 AND NOW ALSO INCLUDES HOLLOW LADDER SUPPORTS.
EFA alert notification EFA/2013/004 is supported by the new ACoP L8 legislation provided by the Health and Safety Executive. This indicates that hollow tank supports are no longer permitted in cold water storage tank installations!
Envirocure provides a replacement service for the supports which will include a certificated BS 8558 / PD 855468 disinfection.
New supports have an X profile and are equal in structural strength to traditional supports.
Tanks that contain hollow supports have been identified by the HSE and EFA as providing an environment in which water can stagnate.
The presence of stagnant water is likely to encourage the growth of Legionella bacteria above the recommended risk levels. This would then present the risk of the entire domestic water system becoming contaminated.
Envirocure is audited and approved by the Legionella Control Association and specialises in undertaking cold water storage tank remedial works which include the replacement of hollow tank supports and internal access ladders with solid structures.
Envirocure has the means, the experience and the expertise to safely remove and replace these installations whilst at the same time cleaning and disinfecting the internal surfaces of the cold water storage tank leaving the client with an installation free from the risk of stagnation and contamination from Legionella bacteria.
